US-based promoters Whirlwind Live Performances are bringing a new staging of Indecent Proposal: The Challenges of a Jamaican Mom to South Florida for Mother’s Day weekend, pairing live theatre with a curated selection of Jamaican cuisine at concession stands.

The production, written by Patrick Brown, centres on the realities of a Jamaican single mother juggling finances, career ambitions, parenting, and a complicated love life. The storyline, rooted in everyday Caribbean experiences, leans heavily into humour while exploring relatable social themes.

Audiences can expect a mix of comedy and drama, with the signature “mix-up” storytelling style that has long resonated with Jamaican theatre-goers at home and in the diaspora.

The cast features Glen “Titus” Campbell, Sakina Deer and Courtney Wilson, delivering what organisers describe as a lively, family-oriented performance.

According to organisers, the decision to pair theatre with food was intentional, reflecting the cultural importance of shared meals during celebrations like Mother’s Day.

“Mother’s Day is a family day to enjoy and treat mom. Jambiz plays are a comedic treat, perfect for the family and, most importantly today, very affordable,” a representative from Whirlwind Live Performances said.

The production will be staged twice over the holiday weekend: on May 9 at Everglades High School in Miramar at 8 pm, and on May 10 at the Coral Springs Centre for the Arts at 6 p.m.

Organisers advise patrons to purchase tickets in advance, noting that Mother’s Day theatrical events within the Jamaican diaspora community typically sell out.

Dancehall legend Bounty Killer is set to receive one of Kingston’s highest civic honours, as the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) moves to formally recognise his towering contribution to Jamaican music and community development.

The resolution, recently passed by the municipal body, will see the veteran deejay awarded the Key to the City of Kingston. At the same time, a road in his community of Seaview Gardens will also be renamed in his honour—a fitting tribute that recognises his legacy both in the cultural landscape and in the community that helped shape him.
